Dead Rite chapter 85.04

Harold looked at Jasfoup, who shrugged. He turned back to Amanda. “You are dead, love. Sorry. Something about being previously possessed must muck up the spell.” He walked back to the spell book and leafed through several pages. “That's worth making a note of, actually. It means the sell won;t work for Lucy if something ever happens to her. Also, it means that I couldn't have put Julie back in her body even if she hadn't been as loopy as a bucket full of dingbats.” He took a fountain pen from his pocket and began to add a note in the margin. Previous possession of the patient prevents required resolution.

“You'll have to tell Felicia. She'll be ecstatic you couldn't have brought Julie back even if you hadn't killed her.”

“Thanks.” Harold barely glanced up. “I think you ought to be the one to tell her that, since you were so chummy with her. Besides, it was you that suggested the portal to hell.”

“The portal!” Jasfoup curled his lip. “Devious! You forgot all about Percy Trubshaw.”

Dill looked up at the name. “Sam, you mean?”

“No. Percival. We found him alive in the Tower of Records. He still thought it was nineteen eighty-seven.”

“Sam's dad disappeared before he was born. Could it be him, do you think?”

“If his mum's name was Mary, then probably. When was your friend born?”

“Eighty-eight.”

“”That'll be awkward then.”

“Why?”

“Your friend's older than his dad.”
