Dead Rite chapter 104.03

“An army of them?” It was rare to see Gillian look troubled but Harold recognised the expression, fleeting as it was. “We have to stop them.”

“We need Lucy to do it.” Harold looked toward the hill where, hopefully, Jasfoup wasn't collapsing the tunnel to Magelight. It was hidden from his view by the house but he looked anyway. “Dill said they hadn't been activated. If we're lucky they'll still be dormant and we can take them out in one fell swoop.”

“That would be nice.” Gillian's eyes glittered in the reflected light. “I don't know, though. Just one of those things in close quarters could finish us.”

Harold recalled the device Gillian had invented when she went up against a den of London werewolves. Basically it was a series of bloodbags attached to a single tube which enabled her to fight and feed at the same time. “We could wear blood harnesses.”

“True. I'll need Devious to get me more blood, though. I don't have that many bags available.”

“I'll get him.” Harold clicked his fingers. “Lucy needs a nap before we go, anyway.” He yawned. “I might take advantage of that myself. It's been a long day.”

“You do that.”

Devious appeared. “Jasfoup's ready for you, sir. We've set the whole three miles of tunnel to collapse, all the way back to the Bone Cathedral.”

“Brilliant. Tell him we'll be another couple of hours then go out and get us another dozen bags of blood.”

The imp glanced at Gillian, raising his eye ridges at the damage she'd taken. “Right you are, sir. Anything else?”

“A baby backpack.” Harold grinned at his vampire consort. “One of those you carry a toddler in.”
