Dead Rite chapter 117.02

Peters looked askance at his superior but soldiered on regardless. “Before we go, sir, I'd like to know if we can expect any more of your zombies. There have been several incidents in the last week and it would be good to know you have the situation under control.”

Hunt kept his finger hovering over the intercom button. “Zombies, sergeant? There's no such thing as zombies.”

“Not in the strictest sense of the word, sir, no, but there have been several unfortunates with...let's say a displaced perspective on life. While we appreciate the involvement of the military at your instigation, we'd really appreciate knowing there'll be no further incidents.”

The lift doors opened and two security guards stepped out. Hunt looked from Peters to White and back again. “While I admit no liability in regard to any involvement with zombies or the presence of the military in Laverstone I can be reasonably confident there will be no further incidents of these...displaced perspectives you refer to, sergeant.”

“Good to know, sir, thank you.” Peters turned to the lift and turned back. White was impressed. It was a classic trick but his sergeant pulled it off perfectly. “And no more robots, presumably?”

“What?” Hunt frowned.

“Robots, sir. The big silvery chaps in the woods?”

“I can honestly say I know nothing about robots, Sergeant. Good day to you.”

Peters paused to make a note of the conversation, nodded and offered a tight smile. “Thank you sir. We appreciate your time.”
