Dead Rite chapter 120.05

“Oh.” Harold frowned. “So you can't...”

“Possess people? No. I'm not that powerful a demon. You have to be a game-changer to physically affect people's lives, to actually make them do evil. Or good, for that matter; angels have the ability to possess, too.”

Dill passed Harold another cube. “I saw that on Supernatural.”

Jasfoup paused. “On what?”

“It's a TV show.” Dill shrugged and pulled out the next cube. “You should watch it. It's insightful.”

“It seems so.” Jasfoup looked at Harold. “Where was I?”

“On your relative powerlessness.”

“I wouldn't put it exactly like that. My point is, I can nudge people into being evil, suggest they park on double-yellow lines, watch the adult channel when their parents are out--”

“I used to do that.”

“I know. What I'm trying to say is I can do anything as long as I keep this body. Oh, I can change it to look like anything or anyone I like but--”

“You never told me that.”

“Why would I?”

“You mean I could have asked you to look like Britt Ekland or Angelina Jolie or...” Harold swallowed. “David Tennant?”

“You could have asked, yes, but I doubt I would have complied. Being the object of your hero worship is bad enough in my usual form without you acting on your lustful desires.”

“But--”

“Anyway.” Jasfoup glared at him. “I'm limited to these senses. I'll never know how it feels to be human, how the world tastes to a human tongue, how the sounds react to your limited hearing, what it's like to only see in the visible spectrum and never be able to look at atoms without complex equipment. Demons that can do possessions...” He shook his head. “I can only dream.”
