Dead Rite chapter 133.27

Devious appeared in a cloud of smoke.

Harold coughed pointedly and waved it away, half turning to shield Lucy from the noxious cloud. “How many times have I told you not to smoke around the baby?”

The imp scowled and dropped his cigarette, crushing it under one bare foot. “Seventeen, but how was I to know you were going to summon me just after I'd lit it, eh?” He looked around the space they were in. “Where are we now?”

“At the bottom of a lift shaft.” Harold pointed to the elevator car far above. Its electric light gave it the appearance of a twinkling star, albeit not one he could make a wish on. “Dill got injured and needs food to heal.”

Devious examined the zombie, noting the bones protruding from the flesh of one arm and leg. “But it survived the fall?”

“I have got a name you know.” Dill sniffed. “Alive and kicking.”

“Well, not so much kicking. Not with that splintered femur.”

“Don't be facetious, Harold.” Gillian took Lucy back. The child had remained silent since the drop and merely clung like a monkey to her mother. “Devious, will you please get Dill some food so that he can heal and we can get all out of here?”

“Food, yes.” The imp sucked air through its teeth. “That's not going to be easy, you know.”

“There's a canteen here.” Dill pursed his lips. “I mean an autopsy suite. There might be something there.”

Devious looked to Harold, who nodded assent. “Right. One cadaver Carbonara coming right up.”
