Dead Rite chapter 136.08

“Only in a very small number of very exclusive bedrooms.” The voice had shifted, and Harold could tell it was now Dill looking out of those milky orbs. “This will be high-end immortality, available only to the very rich.”

“And tax-deductable corporations.” Jasfoup glanced at the view screen. The soldiers were pouring into the top of the stair-well, only four floors above them. It was obvious that their escape route was blocked from that direction and time was fast running out. “If you make immortality for sale the people who can afford it will be the managers of businesses that are already successful and powerful, and self-made millionaires who have made their money by crushing entrepaneurs like you. What do you think will happen when they become immortal? I can see the future you're creating, old son, and there's no room in it for for healthy competitive business models. I see a world divided not by geography but by corporations.”

“But we'll be at the top.”

“Only for a few years, then the corporations will copy the technology and crush you underfoot. This a door that should never be opened.”

“Speaking of doors...” Harold pointed to the laptop screen. “We need to find one a-sap.”

“A-sap?”

Hold could feel his face turning red. “I heard it on a film. It sounded cool.”

“It only sounds cool in film, Harold.” Jasfoup turned to the zombie. “We really need to get out of here.” He shot a glance at Harold. “As a matter of some urgency.”
