Dead Rite chapter 142.2

“Why? If we find the robot we can arrest everybody and get an end to the investigation.” Peters slipped his phone into his breast pocket. “I wouldn't be at all surprised to find the cryogenic men and the weapon for killing people without leaving a mark is here, too. We did find the first body here, remember?”

“It was the second body we found here, sergeant. The first was the soldier, remember?”

“Right, of course.”

“And the missing boys? Where do they fit into all of this? The army cleared out their flat and hushed up the disappearance, then the robot ran off with their supercomputer from the college. I don't think either of those events are a coincidence.”

“You think the lads invented the weapon and the army took them in to their weapons development facility? It makes sense. The robot came from Magelight, after all. Having the lads there would explain why everything was centred on that area.”

“And Percival Trubshaw?” White could have kicked himself. “I left him locked up yesterday. They'll have released him by now.”

“That could complicate matters. He's the only cryogenics subject to survive.”

“Indeed.” White stared at the blank windows of the manor. “Well we're not getting anywhere by sitting in the car. Let's go and boot some doors down.” He saw his sergeant's look of horror. “Metaphorically speaking.”
