Dead Rite chapter 154.06

“What's 'Oh dear?'” Eddie Hislip looked at Harold. “Who's he talking to?”

“A colleague in another... er... location.” Harold managed not to glance at Devious and looked at Jasfoup instead. “Is there nothing that can be done for him? A soul insertion from one of our...” He hesitated, not wanting to say 'demon' or even 'black' “specialist associates?”

“Not without it being obvious.”

Harold turned to Eddie. “So, tell me about your brother. What's his name?”

“Jared. Jared Maul Hislip.”

“Ah. I can see your parents were sci-fi fans.”

“Were they? I'd never have guessed.”

Harold ignored the sarcasm. “What's he like? Typical taciturn teenager?”

Eddie shrugged. “Pretty much. Sociable enough when he feels like it. Pretty good on the game console and a wicked skateboarder.”

“Wicked?” Jasfoup chimed in. “Your brother's wicked already? That's a good start.”

“Wicked? He's a killer with that skateboard.”

“Excellent.” Jasfoup spoke to Devious again. “You know what to do.”

“Are you talking about my brother? Is there something wrong with him?”

Jasfoup turned to him. “You know about personality disorders associated with cannabis use, don't you? Your brother may have had what we call 'an episode'. Don't be alarmed if he acts a little differently to his usual behaviour.”

Eddie's brow furrowed as he looked from Jasfoup to Harold and back again. “Were you talking about Jared on your ethernet? What's the matter with him?”

“Nothing a little time and patience won't cure. It'll just be a case of adjusting to his new personality.”

“And stay away from marijuana,” Harold added, trying to be helpful.
