Dead Rite chapter 156.13

“Brilliant.” Frederick sat forward in his seat. Well, not so much sat forward as flowed forward like a cloud of CO2 vapour pushed by an infill of warm air. “You've only been undead for a few days and you're already mingling. Who?”

“Amanda Brinkley.”

The ghostly brow creased. “Not sure I know an Amanda Brinkley. What sort of nephilim is she?”

“She's not a nephilim.” Dill swivelled until he was facing Frederick again. “At least, not in the sense you mean. She's not the product of an angel shagging her mum.”

“What then?”

“She used to live upstairs from Sam and me. She got taken by one of the demons but Jasfoup managed to hang on to her spirit so when the demon possessing her body came into contact with Lucy...” He made a double-handed simulation of an explosion.”Boom.”

“So Jasfoup got her back into her body?”

“In a manner of speaking.”

“He either did or he didn't.”

“He did. Eventually.”

“There's something you're not telling me, isn't there? Is she a zombie?”

“No exactly.”

“Not exactly a zombie?” Frederick looked down, lines of ectoplasm curling his brow.”What then?”

“She's a mummy.”

“A mummy? From Egypt, you mean? Does she speak English?”

“Yes. She is English.” Dill stumbled over the explanation. “Harold made her into a mummy.”

“He did? He didn't tell me.”

“It was all a bit of a rush before she rotted. She's fine, though, or she will be when the process is finished. It takes a few months to soak her in the right solution then a few more to dry her out again.”
