Dead Rite chapter 157.05

“It's not the battery that directs your calls. It's the sim card that does that.”

“Sim card?” Jasfoup chortled. “Do you really think I'd fall for that one?”

“Fall for what?” Jasfoup was impossible to reason with. Harold scowled and handed him back the phone. “It's the truth.”

“Truth.” The Demon had to pull out a handkerchief to wipe the tears of mirth from his eyes. “Oh Harold. If I was technically alive you'd kill me. I think it's charming, and if you want to believe there are little virtual people really about inside your mobile then that's up to you. I won't pierce you with the Dagger of Derision for your antiquated beliefs.”

“They're not antiquated beliefs, you moron. That's how a mobile phone works.” Harold could feel the heat in his cheeks and only the pain from his fingernails cutting into his palms reminded him to unclench his fists. “I'm not talking about simulated people. A sim card is a subscriber identity module. There's a removable SIM card Inside every mobile phone which securely stores the service-subscriber key used to identify a subscriber to whatever provider the consumer has selected.”

“Brilliant.” Jasfoup put away his handkerchief which was once again pristinely laundered. “You should be a comedian.”
