Dead Rite chapter 161.14

Jasfoup patted him on the arm. “Not just old ladies, Harold. Everybody goes to Hell. If you're worried about her I could look her up later, see where she's been assigned, make sure she's receiving everything she's entitled to.”

“Would you?” Harold looked at the corpse on the floor. “I'd like that. This wasn't her fault, was it? Poor old love. She was somebody's mum.”

“Actually, no.” Sefskapoi consulted his notebook. “She never had children. She was married once, though her husband disappeared in the early seventies, along with a woman from the next street over. Nobody ever heard from either of them again, including the two children she left behind that ended up in care. One of them is in prison now for aggravated burglary.”

“And the other?”

“Ah, The other's worse. The other entered the priesthood.”

Harold nodded at the body on the tiles. “How is any of that her fault?”

“She killed the mother when she found her in bed with her husband. They're buried under the Anderson shelter in the garden.”

“Really?” Harold looked up. “A real Anderson shelter?”
