Dead Rite chapter 165.07

“You like Chinese food.” Harold pushed the plate back in front of her. “Look. There's chicken and spring rolls... you like spring rolls.”

“I want potato.”

“There isn't any potato.”

“He'll get me some.” She pointed to Devious.

He looked up, his mouth already smeared yellow from Saffron Pork Balls. “I can do, Master, if you like. It's no trouble.”

“That's not the point, Devious. We can't be dictated to by the whims of a two-year old child.”

Jasfoup swallowed noisily and gesticulated with his chopsticks. “She's very advanced for her age, though. If you look at it objectively, it's more like being bossed about by a four or five-year old. You're less pandering to a child and more obeying the commands of a supreme being.”

Harold sighed. “Mashed potatoes, then, Devious, please.” He glared at Lucy, who was in the process of climbing down to return her attention to the television. “You'll stay at the table, Young Lady.”

She pouted, declining to speak until Devious reappeared with a tureen of piping hot mashed potato, full of cream and butter and decorated with a sprig of fresh parsley. She stared at it, her lower lip trembling. “I want gravy, too.”
