Dead Rite chapter 166.06

“Not necessarily.” It was hard to read Dill's expression. It was like reading an email without emoticons until it was impossible to tell is the speaker was being mean, or just ironic. A humorous comment could so easily sound like vitriol without human expression. “Not if the price was sufficiently high that only the very rich could afford them, high enough to make then unattractive as general labourers.”

“Which would mean that an elite section of society would be immortal.” Harold shook his head. “Didn't you study history in school? When you have a small number of elitist rich the class divide grows exponentially. All the wealth resides in the hands of a select few who hen control the economy in their favour. What happens when one landowner holds all the wheat? The common man labours all week for enough to buy a loaf of bread.”

Dill shook his head. “All I want is a brand new me, and the ability to give other people the same.”

Jasfoup nodded. “And be rich as a pope while doing it.”
