Dead Rite chapter 167.04

He took another cautious sip of his tea and put the cup and saucer on the bedside table. He'd let it go cold in protest, and then perhaps she'd put sugar in the next one. “I might have to nip out, not to do any policing, as such, just to make sure Peters knows what to do.”

Beryl's face darkened. “Cameron White, you are not leaving this house to go gallivanting about the woods.”

“Not the woods, no.” He thought about the last time he'd been in the woods, chasing down a six-foot silver robot. He still had to write a report about that and find some way of not being retired on grounds of mental instability. “The station, perhaps.”

“So that you can fill yourself with sugar and fat and clog your arteries even more?” She shook her head, wagging a finger it time with the movement. “You can think again. If you must meet with your sergeant he can come here where I can supervise what you're troughing.”
