Dead Rite chapter 173.09

“What do you mean?”

“Your sister's always drunk. She's an alcoholic. It's a good job she doesn't drive or I'd have arrested her a dozen times over.”

Beryl laughed nervously. “Don't be ridiculous. Beattie isn't an alcoholic. She likes a little tipple now and again, of course, but you never see her drunk.”

“Only because her blood is mostly alcohol. The woman drinks spirits with her breakfast, for God's sake. How she holds a job down is anybody's guess.”

“She's never had any complaints.”

“School crossing wardens rarely do. How many five-year olds would recognise an alcoholic? I'm surprised she hasn't pickled herself to oblivion.”

“I haven't seen Beattie in a couple of weeks. I ought to go soon.”

“Before she goes, yes.”
